Markus is a Finnish defender who was born in Helsinki and plays for Swedish Allsvenskan side Malmö FF. He began his career in his native Finland with FC Viikingit but signed for HJK Helsinki at the start of the 2003 season. He made just 3 appearances in his debut year but by the time he left the club at the end of 2007 he had played a total of 77 games. In 2006 Markus scored for HJK in a 1-1 draw with Drogheda United in the UEFA Cup.

His career in Sweden started with a move to GAIS in 2008 but before playing a single game he had moved on to join Malmö FF. He played a part in Malmö’s league title win in 2010 and made 8 appearances in their European campaign of 2011. In total, Markus had made 74 senior appearances for Malmö prior to the start of the 2013 season.

Markus is also a Finnish international and won his first cap against Greece in 2008. He has since won a total of 15 caps for his country.
