A very good three points on the road for Ruadhri Higgins's side , they were certainly the better side over the 90 minutes and fully deserve to continue their unbeated sequence after four series of games.
The experience of players such as McEleney , Patching and Thompson really shone out here tonight and Shels in truth did not seem at the same level as the visitors.
Duff's newly assembled side certainly play the ball on the deck and do create some chances but there was very little coming through from either flank to really trouble the Derry defence.
Derry now sit top of the table while Shels are still coming to terms with life in the top tier.
Thats it from Patrick O' Connor here at Tolka Park, hope you enjoyed the live updates !!
Ledwidge shots from a good angle but it goes wide, that may well be their last chance of an equaliser
Corner to Shels after great work by Kane
5 mins added time
Matty Smyth takes a shot on the edge of the box but its high and wild.
Shels pressing hard for an equaliser her but they are running out of time and Derry look fairly comfortable dealing with the Shels attacks
McJannet is down with an injury but is ok to continue
Derry beginning to stretch Shels even more now knowing they have the cushion of that goal.
The defender's header was saved by Webb before McEleney tucked in the rebound.
McEleney forces it home from close range after Shels were unable to clear the ball from a corner
Corner to Derry after good work by Kavanagh, again its poorly taken and cleared by Shels
Still very few clear cut chances for either side, Shels have gone for two up front, Anaebonam supporting Boyd in attack, they have about 20 minutes left to try to fashion a goal for the home team/.
Shels look much more fired up in the second half, they are starting to put a lot more pressure on Derry and have just won a corner but fail to capitalise on it
Mark Coyle is now down injured, looks like he will be ok to continue though
Its been an interesting first half but one which also never really caught fire.
Derry have certainly dominated the game but have come up short in the final third while Shels have largely played second fiddle but still managed to go into the break on level terms.
Corner for Shels won by Boyd, last chance of a goal before the break- the corner kick is poor though and the ball is cleared.
3 mins added time
Moylan is disconsolate as he hobbles off the pitch, it does however give an opportunity to McEniff to impress
Moylan sems to have pulled up with a hamstring injury, he has been Shels main threat and will be a loss if he has to go off
A rare attack from Shels, Moylan slaloms through the Derry defence, has a shot which is deflected away for a corner- this come sto nothing.
Derry camped in the Shels half, they are stroking the ball around well but lack the killer touch, so far.
Its all Derry here so far, they seem well in control and have Shels chasing shadows at times, Duff is less than impressed in the home dugout !
Kavanagh does well to weave hisn way into the box and creates a half chance for McGonigle but he is unable to control it and the chance is gone.
McManus goes down after a heavy challenge from McEleney , he gets attention and is ok to continue.
McGonigle gets bewteen the two Shels centre backs and manages to get a shot away but there is no power in it and Webb easily gathers it.
Good passing move by Shels, Kane plants a cross on Boyd's head but he directs his header over the bar, this was their first serious attempt on goal.
Derry on top here but their final ball is lacking precision and Lewis Webb is untroubled so far.
No chances at either end as yet, though Derry appear to be getting control of the midfield section through McEleney and Patching
Very even game so far, both sides playing the ball on the deck as one would expect.
10 mins to kick off here, a very large crowd in attandance , all anticipating a cracking game no doubt.
Its a perfect night for football here at Tolkas Park, no wind or rain and the pitch is in top class condition.
Ruaidhri Higgins makes two alterations to the starting eleven following their 0-0 draw against Sligo Rovers on Monday night, Ronan Boyce and Daniel Lafferty replacing Ciaran Coll and James Akintunde.
The Shelbourne line up is announced and it contains just one change from the team that played UCD, Jordan McEniff, who was replaced after 25 mins of that game, starts on the bench and Aodh Dervin is recalled to the starting eleven.
Derry City are unbeated since the season started however their prospects for the remainder of the season took a severe blow this week with the announcement that club stalwart Ciaron Harkin has suffrered an ACL injury and will play no part for the rest of the year.
Shelbourne will be looking to rebound from last Monday night's 0-0 draw away to UCD, a game where they were not at their best and where Damian Duff will surely consider it two points dropped instead of one point gained.
