With just over 1o minutes to go it's Glway that are dominating, at least int erms of possession. They can't find a way through the Shelbourne defence. A change might be needed from the home side.
Shane Doherty just broke away and wal almost one on one with Clarke. Kouogun di excellently to track the forward and did just enough to cleanly win the ball in the box
Walsh is having a great game, he just palyed Shane Doherty into the Shels box who slipped the ball to Keating, but the striker had his run timed incorrectly and couldn't get a clean strike.
Substitute Michael O'COnnor is after coming close to nabbing a goal from nothing just now. He sent a beautifully struck ball goalward from outside the box. It was curling into the top corner until it collided with the crossbar.
Galway are being very patient in their build up. They've had almost all the possession this half but they seem to be waiting for a clear opportunity.
Clarke has been the difference maker again for Shelbourne...twice! Walsh is after finding Rowe at the far post whose shot was excellently blocked by Clarke. Cunninghasm picked up the rebound and had a go but the goalkeeper was on hand once again to block the shot.
Hail is now lashing Eamonn Deacy Park. And there's very little feeling left in my fingers! A long second half to go!
Half time here at Deacy Park and it's been all action. It's almost exactly what we would have wanted from a match between these two sides. Here's hoping that football provides the talking points in the second half rather than what went on at the end of that first half.
The fourth official has signalled two monutes of additional time at the end of this half which is...surprising.
Things just turned sour here in Galway after McAuley took Maurice Nugent out with a two footed challenge. That resulted in a bit of a schmozzle in the middle of the field where someone threw a punch at Davifd Hurley. Either way McAuley received his marching orders while Walsh and Kouogun received bookings.
As we approach half time Galway have been by far the better side. But I expect there should be more to come from the Reds in this game.
Keating almost had an open goal opportunity just now after some great pressure from Cunningham forced Shelbourne into an error. The striker couldn't get his feetr right and drew the defence on him before blazing the ball wide.
Galway have gone very close a few times just now. Rowe had a free-kick saved, and Keating had a header deflected behind fpr a corner. The resulting corner and scramble saw Clarke just about lay claim to the ball on the line...a let off for the visitors.
Brennan just got booked for flaking the ball at McCormack while he was on the ground...fun to watch at least!
Ryan Brennan is putting on a show tonight. He's after throwing himself to the ground theatrically after a coming together with McCormack. The ref had none of it!
Georgie Poynton just had a free kick on the edge of the box, a worrying time for United. New goalkeeper Conor Kearns was confident as he came to punch the ball as far away as he could.
Walsh is coming back onto the field, albeit with a thick layer of bandage wrapped around his head. Good that he's able to continue.
Padraic Cunningham had another effort on target just now, although it wasn't near strong enough to challenge Clarke in SHels goal. Mikie Rowe dinked a nice ball up to the striker but his header was weak and into the chest of the goalkeeper.
Duggan picks up a yellow for a challenge on Ryan Brennan...although I'm not so sure how much contact the Galway player made.
Stephen Walsh has been down the last minute or so and as he walks off thefield he seems to have picked up a cut to the head. Tough return to Galway United for the defender so far.
Neither side is getting any breaks at the moment. But just to note there are 6 debutants in the Galway team tonight. Kearns, O'Keeffe, Boylan, Hurley, Rowe and McCormack.
At the other ens, Keating is just after playing a threaded through ball to Cunningham who topk the ball in by the byline only to have CLarke save the shot.
JJ Lunney just had a major chance here. Right in front of goal but he snatched at the ball anjd smashed it over the cfrossbar.
The Stunning's Brewing Up a Storm is ringing out across the stadium, almost time for the First Division to get underway...
One of the coldest spots in Galway has just gotten colder...it's just started snowing at Eamonn Deacy Park here on the banks of the Corrib.
Just twenty minutes away from kick-off here in Galway. This is a huge game for both sides with Shels and Galway both tipped to battle for promotion this season.
