Live Updates for Dundalk -v- Derry City

90'

Thats it from Oriel Park, Dundalk just about deserved it over the course of the 90 minutes however Derry really put it up to them in the second half and were a little unlucky not to grab an equaliser.

Its all about Chris Shields at the final whistle however, he gets a standing ovation from the 100 fans inside the ground, his family are also here for some photos and finally the players form a guard of honour as he leaves the pitch for the last time - a fitting tribute to a club legend !!!!!

Patrick O' Connor signing off here on a good night for  Dundalk and a great night for Chris Shields.

90'

90'

Its looking like the fairy tale ending that Dundalk wanted for Chris Shields , only seconds left but Derry have a corner .........

89'

3 mins added time

88'

Derry pretty much camped in Dundalk's half , their second half display certainly deserves some reward but  they are running out of time  here

56'

Quick break by Dundalk, Duffy has a shot bit its put out from a corner, from the free kick its handball  by a Derry defender and a penalty for Dundalk

52'

Derry have come out revitalised after the break and are tyring to break down the Dundalk defence but they are struggling to really test Boyle and Shields at the  centre of the home defence.

51'

Yellow Card

Darragh Leahy (Dundalk) is booked.

SECOND HALF

The second half between Dundalk and Derry City has started.

46'

Substitution

Ciaran Coll  - David Parkhouse  (Derry City).

45'

So far so good for Dundalk and Chris Shields. They have been the better team in the first half and have dominated the game for the most part. Kelly and Murray in particular have been very threatening along the right flank.

In contrast Derry have largely depended on Akitunde up front but he is being well marshalled by Shields and Boyle. Ruaidhri Higgins's side are certainly missing the flair of Will Patching in midfield, his loan period is up and he has returned to Dundalk.

45'

44'

41'

Yellow Card

36'

Duffy does well to get a shot away, Garthside can only parry it into the path of Daniel Kelly who gleefully smashes it into a empty net with the kepper still on the ground

36'

ASSIST!

Michael Duffy (Dundalk) provides the assist.

36'

GOAL!

Daniel Kelly (Dundalk) scores.

28'

A period of converted pressure from Dundalk leads to a corner but again its overhit and goes harmlessly wide

25'

Good build up play by Derry , they thought they had won a corner but the linesman disagrees and its a goal kick instead

23'

Good shot on the run by Murray but Garthside gets down well to save.

20'

Akintunde out muscles Shiels and puts Fitzgerald through  but his cross is completely overhit and another half chance goes a begging for Derry

17'

Derry repay the favour at the other end, they give the ball away under pressure , Hoban is played through but he also does not take advantage of the half chance and Derry clear their lines

14'

Dundalk a bit hesitant at the back and give the ball away to Derry inside the box but they fail to capitalise on the half chance

9'

Derry have now setled well into the game and are beginning to launch a few attacks of their own.

5'

McEleney has a shot from 30 meters but its high and over the bar

3'

Bright start by Dundalk  , they have had three attacks and a corner in the first few minutes.

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Dundalk and Derry City has kicked off.

0'

There is less than 15 minutes to kick off here at Oriel Park, its another calm, dry night , perfect for football so lets hope we get an exciting game between these two mid table sides.

0'

Its a special night for the locals in Dundalk as this match marks the end of a era, the last match in which Chris Shields will represent the town in a League of Ireland match before he switches to the Danske Bank Premiership in Northern Ireland.

Shields, a club legend, played 348 times for Dundalk over a nine and a half year period but is departing tonight having signed a 3 year deal with Linfield FC.

Its a pity that only 100 fans are allowed inside the ground tonight but the rumours I heard on the way into the venue seem to indicate that there will be  a large gathering of supporters outside the ground after the match, so no doubt Chris will engage with them and say his goodbyes on the Carrickmacross Road later tonight.

0'

Good evening and welcome to Oriel Park for tonight's Premier Division clash  between Dundalk and Derry City .
