Drogheda with the ball and only moments to go.
Going to need to check on if it was Evans but eitherway Drogheda are now leading with moments to go.
Three minutes of added time.
Cameron Evans (Waterford) scores an own-goal! The ball was crossed by James Brown into the box and a sliding Cameron Evans (I think) puts it past his own keeper.
Comes to nothing and now the team swap throws on the far side of the pitch.
A couple minutes of normal time remaining. Still time for someone to steal a winner.
The free is taken and Waite takes it and it goes to the right of the wall and just wide.
A free-kick in a dangerous position for Waterford. Directly outside the box and very central.

Deegan fouls and gives a free-kick to Waterford a bit outside the Drogs box.
Another corner, this time for Waterford, the millionth of the game, and for the millionth time it comes to nothing.
Mike Newell has seen the first red card of the season. Straight red for the Waterford assistant from the bench. Mind you he has to move only around 3 metres from his original seat.
I did have a curse last season that any game I covered generally ended 0-0. I hope this isn't continuing into the new season.
Just over ten minutes to go. Is there a goal in this game.
Corner to Waterford. Mascoil ball in and it whizzes through the box and Drogheda counter but end up giving a free kick away as they attack.

Corner taken and it ping pongs off a couple of players and another corner is given.
Another Drogheda corner to come...
Jack Stafford (Waterford) is booked. Silly yellow. Knocks the ball out of the hands of a Drogheda player as he goes to take a throw. Pointless card to get.
Some lovely passing from Drogheda. Lots of quick passes and finally lands at the feet of Dinny Corcoran but before he gets a shot off Waterford clear for a corner. That corner once again comes to nothing.
Mascoil with a free-kick into the box but its over everyone and wide.
Dinny Corcoran (in) - Chris Lyons (out) (Drogheda United). Lyons seems to have gotten a knock from that last chance and on comes Dinny.
Waite to Oscar Brennan and from 40 plus yards out he strikes. It is low and ultimately wide.
OOOH what a chance. Ball into the Waterford box and Chris Lyons slides in and it looks like he double tapped the ball sending it JUST wide of the post. That was the best chance of the game.
Not a lot of action to report. Drogheda are attacking but the Waterford defense equal to it.
If you like what we do and would like to support us - you can via our PATREON page.
Possession being cheaply exchanged at present. Neither team really settling into any consistent pattern.
Coming up to the hour mark and we are still scoreless as darkness descends on Drogheda.
Brandon Bermingham (in) - Darragh Markey (out) (Drogheda United). Markey played well in his time on the pitch.
Katlego Mashigo (Waterford) is booked. Bit of an aul lunge and Mashigo is not happy but that doesn't sway the ref and the first flash of yellow is brandished for 2021.
Throw for Drogheda deep in the Waterford half which is taken and results in another closer to the corner. Markey gets a cross in but sails over the box and all that occupy its location.
Both sides in a midfield battle with nothing of note to report to you good folks.
Murray with a shot. Blocked by his own man Markey. Markey has a shot and I think blocked again by his own man Doyle and his shot is deflected wide for a corner that comes to nothing.
Darragh Markey has a shot and it clatters the hoarding. A chance for the home side.
Into the last minute and, while Drogheda definitely started the better, Waterford have come more into it.
The sun is getting lower here as the temperature drops just a tad. In the meantime, Waterford take a quick free from the box and James Waite controls, cuts in and feeds the ball to a teammate but he fails to get a decent shot off.
Play stopped for a moment for Prince as he shakes off a knock. All good and we are back up and running.
It's been a reasonably lively game so far with both sides having half chances but as we approach half time the play is a bit more scrappy.

Another corner now for Waterford. Headed clear by Drogheda but only as far as midfield. Maskell crosses in and the header in the centre of the box is well off target from Evans and it goes wide. Great chance though.

A lovely ball into the box and good control from Darragh Markey and he pivots and shoots but the contact isn't what he'd have hoped and Murphy takes it easily. Great chance for the home side who would be the better starters of the two teams.

Drogheda are back in the Premier Division for the first time since 2017 and have strengthened impressively during the off season. In terms of experience you won’t find much more than the trio of Dane Massey, Dinny Corcoran and Gary Deegan. Their shrewd transfer business is a huge boost to their season ambitions and their bid to avoid a relegation dog fight.
It is a glorious day in Drogheda as we are faced with blue skies, the sun and warmth. Actual warmth. A lovely day for football. It is just a shame it is not being watched by 1,000's in the ground. We can hope that one day we will have that experience back. In the meantime I will do my best to update you through the action.
