Rapid Wien 1 - 2 Arsenal
Arsenal score two goals in four minutes to run out victourious. The double substitution of Bellerin and Aubameyang proved decisive as the two combined for the winner. This leaves Arsenal top of the group (on goal difference!)
Arsenal still seem to be missing something to connect their lethal front three to the centre of the pitch and as much as Partey can fix, there's still work to do. Thank you for taking the time to tune in and I hope you all have a lovely evening! Stay safe.
Yellow for Leno for timewasting
Four minutes of added time.
Arsenal have the lions share of possesion at the moment. Partey is controlling the game from the centre in his first start for the club, while the like of Elneny and Kolasinac have done far better than previous form could have predicted.
Kolasinac and Tierney playing together? Interesting....
Arsenal have the game under control at the moment, limiting Rapid to passing along the half-way line. But we all know Arsenal, so they could easily find themselves rueing that Lacazette chance!
Lacazette really should have scored there! He had the whole half to himself with the ball at his feet, but tried to be too smart and the chances just wriggled away from him. When tackled, it fell kindly for Pepe, who's shot just missed the far corner.
Corner is cleared easily, and Wien follow this up with their first sustitute of the game
Corner for Rapid
It's 2-1 in no time, and its the substitutes combining as Bellerin rushes behind the high back line and passes the ball calmly across the box into Aubameyang's path, who could hardly have asked for an easier shot
NEITHER KEEPER CAN DEFEND AT ALL! Leno storms out of the box and whacks it straight into David Luiz. It falls to Fountas but a combination of surrounding tackles and pressure see's the Rapid striker send it miles wide.
GOAL FOR ARSENAL! Pepe's free-kick is lifted into the mass of players in the box, Rapid's keeper runs out in an attempt to punch it but Luiz just about beats him and heads it into a gapping net. 1-1!
Arsenal's free kick is sent high over the bar by Aubameyang. Arsenal are getting into good positions and forcing fouls.
Arsenal resort to the big guns, bringing on Aubameyang and Bellerin, which has already electrified the game
Leno almost gifting Rapid a second goal, as he passes it straight to Fountas again, who sees his shot pushed wide by the Arsenal keeper
That being said, there's been no clear sights of goal just yet, as Arsenal play the ball back and forth between the wings
Sustained period of pressure now from Arsenal
Taxiarchis Fountas (Rapid Wien) scores.
Disaster from Arsenal! Leno attempts a pass out his defenders but it's blocked and deflected into the path of Fountas, who slots it beyond Leno! The hosts lead!!
Fountas has a chance at the edge of the Arsenal box fly over the bar
Stojkovic is down after, what seems like, an accidental elbow from Nketiah
We're back underway as the home side kick-off for the second half!
It is half-time between Rapid Wien and Arsenal.
Half time. It's a pretty level game, with both sides creating chances. With three yellow cards, Arsenal have to be careful in the second half not to get a man sent off, as you get the sense that that could be a game-changer
Three minutes of added time. Rapid Wien have really been growing as a force in the last five minutes and Arsenal would be looking to see it out to the break
The corner is taken and deflected out to Ullman, who tries to loop it into the box but loops it over the bar and wide
Partey heads it wide for another corner to Rapid Wien
Corner to Rapid Wien in the final minute of the half
Arsenal are lucky to be level as Ljubicic flash a shot across the face of goal and wide from within the 6 yard box.
Saka is down recieving treatment.
Nketiah gets a yellow for taking a shot after the ref has blown for offside. Seems a bit harsh, but nonetheless. That's the third Arsenal player to earn himself a yellow.
Trailing elbow to Fountas's face from Partey, yellow card.
Rapid were quick and had Arsenal on the edge, but Partey was there for the last-gasp tackle just inside the box.
Lacazette earns his side a free-kick, not close enough to shoot but a nice distance for a good old cross. The free kick is taken, and it doesn't beat the first man
To bring a little bit of excitement to the game, Pepe took a shot from his fancied left foot. It sailed harmlessly wide.
Arsenal earn a free-kick inside their own half.
Lacazetter commits a foul, preventing a Rapid (ehh?) counter-attack. His protests to the referee earn him a yellow card.
Consecutive crosses into the box from Arsenal are defended bravely by their Austrian oppositiion. Rapid Wien look strong defensively and are not letting Arsenal create chances easily!
Free-kick on the halfway line for Rapid Wien
CHANCE FOR WIEN! As close as they've gotten so far, with a slick cross from Wien's right headed goalward, but it just about caught by Leno! The game is picking up now alright!
Wien are struggling to get a hold of the ball at the moment, but when they do they too try to lift it over the opposition defence. Their latest is head to Leno by Luiz.
And with that Free-kick, Luiz gets his head to it but a deflection sees it float wide. The resultant corner ended with a second corner, which was played short to Pepe who's shot was caught calmly by the Rapid Wien keeper
Free kick for Arsenal as Grehovac haul's down Pepe around the halfway long in the early stages of an Arsenal counter-attack.
Arsenal are definitely growing into the game, and are attempting to get the ball into their left channel as soon as they can every time. Rapid Wien are sitting back though, absorbing pressure easily.
Arsenal great a chance, with Nketiah speeding down the left wing before crossing the ball along the floor to Saka. Saka's touch is point and the ball slides gently into the keeper
Fun fact, this is actually the first game Arsenal have played with fans in the stadium since March 7th, when they beat West Ham 1-0 at home.
In this game, Rapid Wien have started strong and are applying all sorts of pressure on the Arsenal midfield, forcing them to try to play the ball long towards Nketiah .
Cedric slides in strong on Fountas to give away the games first free just inside the Gunners half.
