FULL TIME!
The game has ended between Shamrock Rovers and Apollon Limassol.
ROVERS WIN! WHAT A RESULT FOR THE HOOPS! Stephen Bradley's side hold quite comfortably against ten-man Apollon a quite simply magical European night in Tallaght Stadium. All to play for next week in Nicosia. The winners of the tie will face Austria Vienna in the next round.
Mtach report to come late from Dave Donnelly along with some post-match reaction over the next few days. Andrew Dempsey signing off here, hope you enjoyed my updates!
Free Kick
There will be four minutes of added time...
The attendance this evening is 5,524
OOOOOOF! Markovic almost breaks Rovers hearts but his volley just whistles wide of goal.... The noise is going ninety as the tension increases ever so more. Not long to go!
Free Kick
Esteban Sachetti was dismissed there for a sickening lunge on Jack Byrne. He was on a booking but the referee gave him a straigh red...
Substitution
Red Card
Corner Kick
Substitution
Aaron Greene rounds keeper Joel Mall but leaves himself with far much to do out wide. Close, but no cigar for the Hoops...
Gary O'Neill has come on to sit in a two with Greg Bolger at the base of the Hoops midfield. You would imagine that's to shore things up a little
Substitution
Shamrock Rovers starting to retreat a little now. I suppose it's only natural given their lead an intensity from the past 73 minutes...
Substitution
This has now turned into the Jack Byrne show, what a performance from the Hoops no. 29
Yellow Card
Free Kick
Shamrock Rovers have won a free kick. Jack Byrne will take it.
GRACE HITS THE BAR! So close for a third for the Hoops there. His header clips off the top of the crossbar, Apollon are hanging in here, never thought I'd be saying that...
Corner Kick
Shamrock Rovers have won a corner kick. Jack Byrne will take it.
Ethan Boyle heads wide at the back post with Grace lurking behind him. Perhaps Grace may have been better there. Dan Carr gets a standing ovation there from the Tallaght Stadium crowd!
Substitution
Tallaght Stadium is absolutely rocking now, Jack Byrne is running the show. Normal service is ensuing as the Cypriots look rattled. The next ten mminutes will be key as Aaron Greene gets ready to come on..
Substitution
Yellow Card
GOAL!
Roberto Lopes scores for Shamrock Rovers.
ROVERS LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roberto Lopes with a glancing header at the near post to head past Joel Mall in the Apollo goal. Tallaght may have just erupted once more. Jack Byrne's excellent delivery was equally well met. 2-1 Rovers and I think they deserve this...
Yellow Card
Rovers have started the second half brilliantly, Sofronis Avgousti watches on with nerves from the dugout as the Hoops seem to have the upper hand ever so slightly...
Corner Kick
Corner Kick
Free Kick
Yellow Card
Whistles ro every touch the Apollon players take with the ball as Rovers hold firm with the first wave of Cypriot attacks during the second period...
Free Kick
Shamrock Rovers have won a free kick. Sean Kavanagh will take it.
Jqack Byrne actually takes it but his effort curls wide of goal.
SECOND HALF
Ethan Boyle and Aaron Greene hold up the ball well in the corner flag as the ball breaks to Sean Kavanagh who vlazes over. Seconds remain...
HALF TIME
It is half-time between Shamrock Rovers and Apollon Limassol.
Rovers, have been pretty good. They will be more than pleased with what they have shown so far. Joel Mall has looked far from convincing in the Apollon goal.. A big second 45 awaits here in Tallaght Stadium, I'll be back then!
Rovers living dangerously momentarily there as Joey O'Brien is forced to hed clear as referee Stephan Klossner is berated by almost everyone in the ground... Papoulis then forces a good save from Mannus for a corner...
Attila Szalai with a huge clearnce to prevent Dan Carr from heading home. The half seems to be petering out a little now, Rovers will be delighted with their efforts thus far...
Joel Mall is not exactly having the most assured of games. Dan Carr, from the endline forces a very unconvetional looking flap clear to keep the ball out. A source of hope for the Hoops perhaps?
Corner Kick
Free Kick
Not much to report on over the past few minutes of the game. The game has finally settled down, I think anyway...
Ronan Finn has been relentless with his pressing tonight. The ex-UCD man is leading by example once more for the Hoops
Yellow Card
Jack Byrne is gliding around in his element here. You suspect there are many scouts watching him with intrigue this evening...
HEARTS. IN. MOUTH... Apollon seem to score a second but is ruled out for offside. Ioannis Pittas hit the ball as it was going in wide. Tallaght went deathly quiet there....
Free Kick
Dan Carr wins a free-kick to relieve some much-needed pressure off the Hoops. Carr has held the line well thus far to be fair..
Jaoa Pedro goes mightily close woth the breaking ball as Mannus is forced to tip over the bar. I'm not sure that was going in but Mannus stops a certain goal just after as he flaps away Gianiotas' effort that went inswinging on goal...
Apollon look to seize the initiative once more more but Jaoa Pedro's cross goes clear. There was more than a few gasps there I can tell you!
GOAL!
Lee Grace scores for Shamrock Rovers.
I said it was coming and there we go! Jack Byrne's excellent set piece is met by the head of Lee Frace who scores from just outside the six yard box. Tallaght has erupted! Spine tingling stuff this is in Dublin 24. The Hoops are deservedly level!
Corner Kick
Rovers on top now. A goal may be coming, I hope...
Free Kick
Yellow Card
Corner Kick
Free Kick
'Twigg of Scotland' being belted out from the South Stand here at Tallaght Stadium - A goal for the Hoops and this place may actually jump up out of its foundations...
Despite the crowd's best efforts, Rovers haven't been able to follow through on this incredible support. They are too laboured for their Cypriot counterparts one would suggest
Free Kick
GOAL!
Fotios Papoulis scores for Apollon Limassol.
That was special. Papoulis sees the ball bouncing up for him after Greg Bolger could not get hold the ball before he absolutely smashes it into the back of Alan Mannus' net.... Not the start Rovers wanted.
Jack Byrne being spoke to for a rather inocouos coming together. Tallaght Stadium is absolutely rocking, this can only be a huge lift for Stephen Bradley's side one may suspect...
Quick start from the Cypriots who attempt to stifle this incredible home support. Alan Mannus forced into two routine saves, you would be concerened if either went in.. Rovers look to calm the play down a tad now..
GAME ON!
And the teams are roared onto the pitch by a huge home support. A couple have made the trip over from Cyprus. This has the makings of a real cracker here in Dublin 24. KO is on its way very shortly indeed...
One change in for the Hoops as Dan Carr replaces Graham Cummins from their last European outing against SK Brann.
Apollon on the other hand make three themselves with Facundo Perreyra, Diego Aguirre and Dylan Quedraogo all losing out in place of Yannis Gionnatis, Fotis Papoulis and Hector Yuste respectively! KO in just over twenty minutes!
Apollon have faced League of Ireland opposition before in European competition having faced Cork City in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup.
The Leesiders came out on top in a 2-1 aggregate win over the Cypriots with defender and former Hoop Dan Murray scoring a 74th minute equaliser to send City through after a one-nil win at Turners Cross where Billy Woods scored the winner.
Shamrock Rovers have played 76 European games throughout their history, winning 16, drawing 14 and losing 46 games in European competition.
