A frustrating night here as Riga contained Dundalk to nothing but a few half chances. They'll be pleased with their night's work. Dunalk on the other hand need to really up their attacking threat for next week or they'll be out of the Champions League Qualifying stages in the first round.
Thanks a million for joining us here on extratime.ie, I've been Tom O'Connor (@boscoisalive) and Niall Newberry's excellent report will be online soon. From Oriel Park it's oíche mhaith.
Deniss Rakels curls the free kick on the edge of the area wide after Jarvis had fouled Debelko. Time's up.
Sean Hoare with the first true effort on goal but his header is straight at the underworked Ozols. The away side seem content with their lot.
Unlike Larnaca here last year, Riga are very beatable. Tonight they've been well organised and allowed Dundalk no time on the ball.
Rekels is playing close to Debelko while Daniel Kelly is wide right for Dundalk.
What a block from the centre half to clear a Gannon cross. All created by a great run from Sean Hoare.
Dundalk lucky not to concede a penalty as the ball appeared to hit Cleary on the arm- nothing given and no major appeal but, especially from a Dundalk point of view in Europe, we've seen them given.
Static performance so far from Dundalk as Ozols, who's looked shaky at times, has yet to be truly tested. Clearly they've done their their homework as Duffy has always players in his vicinity, especially the captain Visnakovs who's covering Petersons.
Roger barges into Benson as he clears from the box following some good work from Riga involving Debelko who's been a nuisance for the Dundalk defence all evening.
Brilliant centre forward play from Hoban as he holds up the ball beofre releasing Duffy and the winger was unlucky to see his effort cannon back off his shins following a defensive block.
Dancing feet from the Athboy native sees an opening created on the edge of the Riga box but his efffort barely warms the hands of Ozols.
Shows what I know!
Benson has gone into the centre withe McGrath wide right. The Athlone man straight into the action as he drives forward to release Duffy but the winger drifts his effort wide.
Robbie Benson is getting ready for action here and it's likely Jamie McGrath will leave the arena. Both men on the return to full fitness.
Laizans fires over from distance after Roger and Debelko fashioned a half chance for the Latvian international.
Frustrating times here for Dundalk as Riga continue to absorb everything with relative ease.
Dundalk free kick wide left with Duffy to swing it over. Riga clear and the referee, as has been his want tonight, is worried about the throwin.
Early chance for Riga as Rogers has to claw away a Debelko effort.
That sub has seen Sean Hoare push into a holding midfield role with Boyle at centre half.
Andy Boyle is warming up here and it looks like he'll replace one of Cleary or Shields. His last European game in Ireland was against AZ Alkmaar in the 2016 Europa League group stages.
Gannon swings in a ball, Ozols gets in a muddle but Riga escape and that's it for the half.
Good news as both players are back in action.
Nasty collision between Shields and Cleary sees both men in trouble. Shields is prostrate on the floor and Cleary has a cut which is being tended to. Two minutes added at the end of the half but we'll have much longer as play has yet to resume. Shields is sitting up but I wouldn't be convinced he'll continue.
A delicious weighted cross from Jamie McGrath landed on the head of Hoban but he couldn't direct it on target and Riga escape. He'll be disappointed not to at least get that on target.
Mountney's cross causes havoc in the Riga box and as they eventually scramble clear, centre back Prenga ends up on the ground and the play is stopped- much to the dismay of the home crowd.
Rugins- the multi capped Latvian right back has been fouled by Sean Gannon and Ozols strolls out of his goal to take the free kick- no rush for them at the minute as they seek a half time blank scorecard
Frustrating perios here as Dundalk are struggling to get to grips with unlocking the Riga defence.
That is until the dancing feet of Sean Gannon evade a few defenders and the sliding Roger blocks his cross.
To be fair to the Riga fans they haven't stopped chanting all night- I haven't a clue what they're saying but it's impressive sounding.
Laizans and Debelko fashion a chance down the Riga right but Roger flashes his effort wide.
PATRICK MC ELENEY!
A pass from the ex Derry man goes astray and he chases down Bopesu to the delight of the crowd.
Rogers then claws away a low effort from a snapshot by Laizans 30 yards out.
Riga look suspect at the back here as they struggle to clear their lines from crosses. Bopesu is spending more time tracking Sean Gannon than putting pressure on the full back himself. That's a good sign from Dundalk as the winger looks lively.
Again he finds himself on the end of a Duffy set piece but his neat swivel and finish is just wide.
McGrath wins a free kick from Rugins and John Mountney swings it in. Saric clears for a corner which Duffy places on the head of Hoare but he heads just wide!
More good work down the Dundalk right sees Mountney and Gannon involved but Riga scramble clear through the impressive Bopesu. He's looked lively so far.
Debelko causing trouble in the Dundalk box as a diagonal finds him onside. Fortunate for the home side, Dean Jarvis got a toe and the Lilywhites escape.
It's settled down a bit now but Dundalk still hold the upper hand. Patrick McEleney will have a major say in proceedings as he's roaming around constantly looking to get on the ball.
Bopesu gets in a nice cross down the left after a number of stepovers but Roger's weak effort is easily hed by Gary Rogers in the Dundalk goal.
Another spectacular strike from the winger but, unlike last season, it flashes wide and not into the top corner.
Dundalk with some early pressure as to be expected in front of an expectant crowd.
Early muscle from the visitors as Rugins gets involved with Gannon before Bopesu fouls Shields.
We've a chant off in the stands, let's move the action to the pitch!
Less than 10 minutes to go here- Oriel Park is packed to capacity and we're getting a quick runthrough of the teams before letting the battle commence.
The rain is building here too and it could be a tough night for both keepers with the conditions.
30 minutes until kick off and both teams are out on the field doing their warmups, Stephen Kenny has taken his place in the stands to warm appplause from the home fans.
The big news concerns the back four with Jarvis, Cleary and Hoare all making their Champions League debuts for the club while Sean Gannon is at right back- as usual. In midfield it's Duffy and Mountney wide with Shields, McGrath and McEleney central. Up front it's another Champions League debutant in the shape of Patrick Hoban.
For FC Riga, Rugins and Petersons are the full backs with Cernomordijs and Prenga at centre back. Sarics and Laizans anchor midfield behind Roger with Bopesu wide left and Visnakovs wide right. Roman Debelko- a goalscorer here for Levadia Tallinn last season is the lone front man.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Live Updates from this Champions League First Qualifying Round tie which sees Dundalk host FC RIga. The teams are in and we've a light drizzle of rain as Dundalk are on the pitch.
