Longford Town will be the first Airtricity League side to break cover after the winter layoff as they take on Keith Karney’s Leinster Senior League side at Station Road on Tuesday night. (Kick-off 7.30pm)
Longford will be looking to improve on last season’s ninth place finish in the First Division and have made several signings towards that end over the winter break. Striker Austin Skelly and defenders Des Hope and Paddy Collins have all joined from Athlone Town, while both Don Cowan and Jason Oladele of Shamrock Rovers have signed permanent deals following successful loan spells last year.
Young midfielder Craig Walsh has also signed from the Hoops while goalkeeping options have been enhanced by the signing of former Barbados international Alvin Rouse.
Newbridge currently stand in ninth place of the Leinster Senior League, Senior Division and have a few familiar names in their squad. JP McDonagh who played at Longford last year is one, along with Dean Barrett and Dave O’Riordain who both lined out for Kildare County in 2009, their last season of League competition.
