Ian Baraclough made Ryan Connolly his first signing as Sligo Rovers manager on Saturday, as the 20 year old put pen to paper on a deal that will see him play for the current league leaders from July 1st until the end of the season.

Connolly, formerly of Derby County, plies his trade mainly on the left wing but can also operate on the right. The Castlebar native has signed with the back to back cup winners after impressing in a recent friendly the club played against Westport United.

He has represented Ireland at under 19 level, but missed out on the European Under 19 Championship in Bulgaria in 2011 after suffering a cruciate ligament injury earlier in the season.

Upon signing for the club, Connolly told the club website, “I’m very happy to sign with Sligo Rovers. They are one of the leading clubs in the country and I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far".

“The training facilities are excellent and I want to hit the ground running and try to make my mark. I know it’ll be difficult, there is a great bunch of lads here and I’ll have to work hard to get my chance and impress the manager."
