Eileen Gleeson was in understandably jovial mood following Peamount United's destruction of Castlebar Celtic in Castlebar on Sunday afternoon. The nine goal victory put one of Peamount's hands firmly on the National Women's League trophy after Raheny could only muster a draw at Wexford Youths on the same day. That leaves Raheny three points behind Peamount with only one game remaining. Raheny must win their final game and Peamount lose theirs to force a playoff for the league title.

Three goals from Stephanie Roche, two from the diminutive Sara Lawlor who was exceptional all afternoon, and one each from Susan Byrne, Claire Kinsella, Dora Gorman and Louise Quinn who all profited from the exceptional attacking play by the visitors that has been a trademark of their championship to date, something that came in for massive praise from Gleeson.

"It's been absolutely amazing, our forward play, and we have great finishers in the team so the goal difference speaks for itself. We put a lot of chances away."

Although obviously happy with the win and the state of affairs Gleeson spoke in professional tone about the last game of the season. "We will be going out to win the last match as well, not to be relying on other factors."

When speaking of Sunday's match as a contest Gleeson was eager to point to a few tactical changes that saw Peamount extend their lead time and time again, "We were getting caught offside too much in the first half, so we had to re-adjust for the second half and start running from midfield and get the ball out wide which seemed to pay off."

"From an attacking point of view, Sara Lawlor caused a lot of hassle up front, I thought Dora Gorman was excellent, I also thought Caroline Thorpe was very lively on the wing. It was a good performance for all the girls."

With the state of affairs as they were one could not keep the smile from Gleeson's face as she spoke of her journey back home, "It'll be a very short trip home now given the news of the other fixtures, it was exactly what we were waiting for."

Peamount play Shamrock Rovers Women in front of their own fans next Sunday the 22nd where they will hope to earn the National Women's Crown. Kick Off is at 2pm.
