Sligo Rovers have announced today (Tuesday) that defensive duo Gavin Peers and Alan Keane have agreed contracts for the 2012 season. Both players were part of Rovers' cup winning squad last season and along with Jason McGuinness and Iarfhlaith Davoren, they formed the meanest defence in last year's Airtricity League Premier Division.

Commenting on his new deal, Keane said: "I'm delighted to continue my time with Rovers. I love it here and I have ambitions to win more trophies and improve. There were a few small things to sort out and this time of year brings a lot of uncertainty so it is great to come to the agreement."

The former Galway United man made the move to the Showgrounds in 2009, after Seamus Coleman made his move to Everton. Since his signing, Keane has been one of the most consistent performers for the Bit O'Red and is enjoying his time at the club. "I moved down to Sligo and settled in very well. It is a great football town and the fans love the club and want to see it do well and I'm already looking forward to next season. We want to go one better in the league and retain the FAI Cup again and that is the challenge in front of us."
