St Mochta’s began their Metropolitan Cup campaign with a thumping 7-1 win over lower league outfit Castleknock Celtic last week.

Brian McCarthy’s side, who are second in the top-flight of the Leinster Senior League, were unforgiving against Castleknock.

A brace each from Tyler Doherty and Gareth McCaffrey did the damage for the Porterstown Road side, with Aaron Robinson, Dean Casey and Cian Caprani also scoring.

And they will be joined in the next round of the competition by Home Farm who stunned Maynooth Town at home.

Farm were relegated from the top division last season but caused a shock of sorts in this one with a 3-2 win over the Co Kildare men.

Jack McMullan scored twice for John Hand’s side with Ben Hanrahan also scoring. Donal Curtin and Paddy O’Sullivan were both on target for Maynooth.

LSL Senior 1 promotion hopefuls Finglas United also went through with a 2-1 victory over Raheny United.

But the biggest shock of the round came at the Palmerstown Sports Complex as Glenville of Senior 1A dumped out top-flight side Tolka Rovers with a 3-2 win.

Tolka Rovers may have rang the changes but they were undone by goals from Conor Fagan, Billie Keogh and David Cunningham. Jackson Ryan and Phillip Gannon both netted for Tolka Rovers.

Holders Malahide United went through with ease as they swatted aside the challenge of Rush Athletic 7-1.

Ballyfermot United withstood a spirited Leicester Celtic 4-3 to go through, while UCD needed penalties to knock out St Kevin’s after playing out a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes at Belfield.

Ballymun United saw off Hartstown Huntstown 1-0, Collinstown defeated Mid Sutton Sportslink 3-0 and Bangor Celtic beat Dunboyne AFC 3-1.

Top-flight Wayside Celtic won 3-1 away to Dublin University, Montpelier strolled past Enniskerry 5-2, Greystones United beat Dublin Bus 3-2 and Ayrfield United eased past TEK United 6-0.

Edenderry Town won 3-1 away to Templeogue United, Leixlip United won 2-0 against Arklow Town and FAI Intermediate Cup winners Glebe North won 4-2 at the expense of Trinity Donaghmede.

Lucan United won an all top-flight showdown with St Francis 1-0, as did Usher Celtic against Killester Donnycarney - winning 3-2.

St Paul’s Artane defeated Sacred Heart 3-2, Drogheda Town lost out to Skerries Town 3-1 and Newbridge Town won 3-1 away to River Valley Rangers.

St Patrick’s CY lost 2-1 at home to Kilnamanagh AFC. Blackrock College are due to face Swords Celtic in the remaining game of the first round next month.
