Wrexham has announced that 18-year-old midfielder, Owen Cushion, has inked his first professional contract with the club.

Cushion, a key player in the youth team's triumphant campaign in last season's National League Youth Alliance Division H and the FAW Youth Cup semi-finals, has committed to an initial one-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season.

Cushion, originally from Liverpool, has been a part of the club since he was seven years old.

He has gradually climbed the ranks, featuring in the first team during pre-season and being part of the match-day squad for the FA Trophy Fourth Round fixture at Altrincham earlier this year.

Expressing his excitement, Cushion said: “It’s unbelievable to sign, I’ve been with the club for 11 years and to now get my first professional deal is so surreal. I’m really looking forward to working with Phil Parkinson, he’s a manager with great experience and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”

In the previous season, Cushion made an impressive 26 appearances for the youth team, netting seven times from his central midfield position. He also made eight appearances for the reserve team.

Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham, was full of praise for the young midfielder.

He remarked: “It’s great for Owen to sign his first professional contract with the club. He progressed well in the Youth and Reserve teams and we’re looking forward to working with him in the coming season.”
