League Report: Derry City 3 - 0 Dundalk

Derry City kept pace with leaders Shamrock Rovers on Monday night as they eased to a 3-0 win over Dundalk.

Goals from Jordan McEneff, Brandon Kavanagh and Michael Duffy easily dispatched of the Lilywhites.

And Dundalk’s defeat means their four-match winning streak has come to an end – but they do remain in fourth place with 16 games played.

The Candystripes took the lead in the 19th minute through former Arsenal youth McEneff.

The attacker latched onto a knockdown from Cian Kavanagh to shoot home from across the face of Nathan Shepperd’s goal.

But Derry had to wait until the hour mark to double their lead – and they did so in style.

After Duffy’s corner-kick was cleared by a Dundalk head, Kavanagh picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and arrowed a stunning strike into the top corner.

It left Dundalk keeper Shepperd with no chance as Lilywhites boss Stephen O’Donnell watched his side labour at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

And in the 83rd minute, Duffy completed the scoring.

Former St Patrick’s Athletic midfielder Adam O’Reilly went on a surging run from deep and reached the end line to roll the ball back for Duffy to shoot into an empty net.
