League Preview: Wexford -v- Finn Harps

WEXFORD

Just one point separates Wexford and Finn Harps as the battle for a promotion play-off place continues at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The South East side grabbed all three points in a 2-1 win against Longford at a treacherous Bishopsgate last weekend to climb into sixth place, as Harps snatched their first home win of the season to climb just below Wexford in the table.

The last meeting between the two was a 0-0 draw in early March. A rather dismal one for the travelling side who lost both Conor Levingston and Aaron Robinson to injury in Ballybofey.

The good news for Wexford is Levingston looks set to return to the matchday squad this weekend, with Brandon McCann also due back from injury.

The latter limped off late in the St. Patrick’s Day fixture against Kerry but scored the winner and played superbly in that 2-1 home win.

Last week’s victory also saw defender Ethan Boyle play higher up the pitch, which seemed to work well in terms of creation and possession in midfield. Both Aaron Dobbs and Aaron Doran made the league’s Team of the Week following their shining performances at Bishopsgate.

Speaking to the media team this week, manager James Keddy said: “I’m delighted to say we are nearly at full strength this week after a difficult period with injuries to key players.

“Aaron Robinson is out long term unfortunately. It’s a massive loss for the team as he was a key player for us.”

FINN HARPS

It will be a long journey for Finn Harps, but the squad will be confident after snatching their first home win of the season last weekend in a 2-0 win over Treaty United.

Both Ryan Rainey and Ellis Farrar were named in the league’s Team of the Week after that fantastic win in Ballybofey.

Goals from Rainey and Filip Da Silva gifted Dave Rogers’ side the three points in Finn Park after a turbulent start to the season, including a heavy 7-1 defeat against Waterford.

The side looked assertive last week - showing threat and determination against a struggling Treaty, and will hope to echo that performance in Ferrycarrig.

In team news, Keith Cowan is not yet due back from a hamstring injury, with Cian Lynch not far from a comeback following a meniscus injury.
