League Preview: Cork City -v- Derry City

CORK CITY

Cork are hoping to improve their home form when they welcome Derry City to Turners Cross on Friday night at 7.45pm.

The Rebel Army have only won at home twice this season and currently find themselves looking over their shoulder.

The latest defeat came after going down to UCD last Friday. That 1-0 loss at UCD Bowl was the 5th defeat of the season so far.

Colin Healy knows they need greater consistency: We are putting on good performances and then the following game is not so good.

“That’s very frustrating. If you went on a run of games, the way the league is at the moment, you would shoot right up”

Cian Bargary is likely to miss the game having suffered a groin injury prior to the UCD game. Ruairi Keating came off at half-time but should be okay to start.

DERRY CITY

Cork City travel south looking to get their title bid back on track after a run of one win in six games.

Cian Kavanagh rescued them a point with ten minutes left after Dundalk threatened to sentence them to a third successive loss.

They find themselves five points behind Bohemians and eight points worse off than last season.

Ruaidhri Higgins knows how dangerous their hosts could be: “Turners Cross has always been a difficult venue and if you come away with three points you know you’ve earned them.

“There’ll be a big noisy crowd and Cork will be looking to put the ball into the box and put pressure on us, so we have to go there and try to stamp our authority on the game”

Colm Whelan and Michael Duffy both made their return last weekend and could well play a part Friday night.

Referee: Robert Harvey.
