Bohemians teenager Reece Byrne set to join Newcastle United

Ireland underage international Reece Byrne is set to join English Premier League side Newcastle United.

The Bohemians teenager has played for Ireland at Under-19 level and has also played for the Boys in Green as a schools international.

A goalkeeper by trade, Byrne played for St Joseph’s Boys as a schoolboy before joining the underage League of Ireland ranks with Bohs.

And on Thursday, his schoolboy club St Joseph’s hailed their former player while confirming the move.

“Congratulations to Reece Byrne on signing terms with Premier League Newcastle United,” they said.

“Reece has shown his ability from day one with us and has continued to develop his skills to a very high degree.”

Byrne, 18, is set to join former Galway United defender Alex Murphy at Newcastle upon completing his move.

Murphy joined the Magpies from the Tribesmen last summer and has impressed with the Premier League side’s underage set-up.
