Premier Division round-up: Bohs extend lead at top with win away to Derry City

Declan Devine’s Bohemians extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division to six points as they edged out a 1-0 win away to Derry City.

Bohs went up to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium reeling from their 2-0 Dublin derby defeat to Shamrock Rovers on Friday night – but they responded.

Kris Twardek was felled in the penalty area by Ireland under-21 winger Ollie O’Neill and Dean Williams was on hand to score the spot-kick.

The win condemned Derry City to a second home league defeat in a row, while Bohs recent revival continued under their new boss.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers claimed their third league win on the spin thanks to a 3-0 win over UCD at Tallaght Stadium.

In a UCD side ravaged by a virus over the weekend, the Hoops took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break.

Graham Burke scored twice for Stephen Bradley’s side, while Jack Byrne completed the rout in the second half with a curling effort that eluded Kian Moore.

At Weavers Park, St Patrick’s Athletic also claimed a 3-1 win against Drogheda United.

Chris Forrester’s spot kick gave Tim Clancy’s side a lead – but they were pegged back by Dylan Grimes’ leveller.

But that was as good as it got for the Drogs as Forrester made it 2-1 just before the break.

And with seconds to go in the game, Eoin Doyle sealed the deal with a late finish.

Shelbourne also returned to winning ways after a 2-1 win at home against Sligo Rovers.

Matty Smith and an own-goal from John Mahon handed Damien Duff’s side all three points – with Daniel Lafferty’s opener not enough for the visitors.

And at Turner’s Cross, Cian Murphy’s goal gave Cork City a 1-0 win over Dundalk.

That win gave Colin Healy’s side their first win since March 3rd.
