League Preview: Drogheda United -v- St Patrick's Athletic

DROGHEDA UNITED

Drogheda United host St Patrick’s Athletic at Weavers Park on Monday night looking for another scalp (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Drogs come into the game off the back of a sensational win away to Derry City on Good Friday.

Elicha Ahui scored a 78th minute winner for the Boynesiders in their win, but they did have to play the majority of the game with ten men.

Defender Emmanuel Adegboyega was dismissed for a tackle as Derry City raced in on goal – with boss Kevin Doherty given his marching orders soon after.

But that did not cause Drogheda to stray from their game plan and they were then able to grind out a narrow win.

But they have a mini-defensive crisis to deal with ahead of the visit of St Pat’s to Weavers Park tonight.

Evan Weir is a doubt while Ben Curtis is also injured, Adegboyega is suspended.

Darragh Noone is a doubt while Adam Foley misses out.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC

After impressing themselves in recent weeks, St Patrick’s Athletic visit Drogheda with a new sense of vigour and swagger about themselves.

Two successive wins against UCD and Cork Citry have propelled them up the table and they remain level on points with Shamrock Rovers.

But boss Tim Clancy is expecting a tough test against his former employer on Monday night.

“Drogheda have started the season well, the result they had away to Derry on Friday night was exceptional,” Clancy said.

“It's going to be a difficult game. we had good results up there last season and got two good wins.

“We want to build on our wins over UCD and Cork City and we'll be hoping to go to Weavers Park tomorrow night and put in another positive performance.”

Tom Grivosti, Danny Rogers and Harry Brockbank all remain out for the Saints.

Referee: Kevin O’Sullivan.
