The 2023 FAI Intermediate Cup final will be a Cork against Donegal affair as defending champions Rockmount will play Cockhill Celtic.

The last time that sides from the Munster and Ulster and Senior Leagues came up against one another was in 1995 when Fanad United beat College Corinthians 1-0 at Terryland Park.

Rockmount booked their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over Lucan United last Sunday in Dublin. Cian Leonard and Luke Casey scored for the defending champions, who looking to become the first team from Cork to retain the trophy since Avondale United in the early 2010s.

The Mount’s pursuit of national glory goes alongside a quest to lift almost every trophy available to them in Munster. Rockmount are currently on top of the Premier Division of the Munster Senior League and they are set to face Douglas Hall next Wednesday in the quarter finals of the Keane Cup.

The north-siders also opened up their Beamish Stout Senior Cup campaign with a penalty shootout victory over Riverstown.

Rockmount also won the Tom Hand Cup by defeating reigning FAI Junior Cup champions Villa FC earlier this year in Youghal.

They will come up against a high flying Cockhill team that is looking to complete their medal collection after playing in their first ever Intermediate Cup final.

Celtic came through the semi-finals by beating Ringmahon Rangers in Cork 1-0, with Lee McColgan scoring the only goal of the game at the start of the second half.

Celtic are serial winners in the Ulster Senior League and they regularly win the Ulster Senior League Cup. They have never made it to the Intermediate Cup final, and now an experienced Rockmount team stand in their way of bringing the famous trophy back to Donegal after being away for 28 years.

No date is currently set for the 2023 FAI Intermediate Cup final and no venue has been decided on.
