League Preview: Athlone Town -v- Treaty United

ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town will be seeking to return to winning ways this weekend when they welcome Treaty United to Lissywoolen on St Patrick’s Day (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Dermot Lennon’s side enjoyed a superb start to the season with back-to-back wins over Longford Town and Finn Harps.

But two consecutive losses at the expense of Wexford and Waterford has seen them slip back to fifth place in the table.

However, they face a Treaty United side who are yet to win this season after a host of players left Tommy Barrett’s side during the off-season.

And they were also unbeaten against Treaty United at home last term, drawing once and winning the other game between the side’s.

Athlone have not issued team news for the game.

TREATY UNITED

As mentioned, Treaty United travel to Co. Westmeath on St Patrick’s Day with a point to prove after a dismal start to the season.

Losses against Bray Wanderers, Galway United and Cobh Ramblers have seen them laguish at the foot of the table.

They are only ahead of League of Ireland new boys Kerry on goal difference.

And in their last outing they were soundly beaten at home by Munster rivals Cobh Ramblers.

Jack Doherty netted twice for the Rams as they coasted to a 3-0 win at the Market’s Field.

But the Shannonsider’s will be hopeful that they can capitalise on Athlone’s recent spell of poor form with their first win of the season.

Treaty United have also not issued team news for the game.

Referee: Alan Patchell.
