League Preview: Wexford -v- Athlone Town

WEXFORD

After a difficult start to the season Wexford take on high-flying Athlone Town at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

James Keddy’s side have fallen to defeat in each of their opening two league games so far this season.

Their season-opener saw them slump to a heavy 3-0 loss at home to Waterford while last week they were edged out by Cobh Ramblers at St Colman’s Park.

Those two losses mean that the Slaneysider’s now have the joint-worst defensive record in the First Division along with Finn Harps and League of Ireland new boys Kerry.

Wexford have not issued any team news at time of publication for the game.

ATHLONE TOWN

Following a stunning start to the season, table toppers Athlone Town will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the pile when they make the trip to the South-East on Friday night.

Despite the absence of striker Frantz Pierrot last week due to the suspension, Dermot Lennon’s side claimed another 3-1 win.

This time it was at the expense of Finn Harps with Donal Curtin, Oisin Duffy and Jamar Campion-Hinds all scoring.

And that win was achieved without boss Lennon in the dugout as he serves a touchline ban after he was dismissed against Longford Town on the opening night of the season.

In terms of team news for Friday’s game Athlone will welcome back Pierrot after he served his one-game ban.

Referee: David Connolly.
