Athlone Town unveil 'strategic partnership' with US-based Valeo Futbol Club

First Division Athlone Town have unveiled a ‘strategic partnership’ with US-based outfit Valeo Futbol Club.

The Town issued a statement on Monday night saying that the partnership will ‘enhance, improve and develop’ all of the club’s teams.

And they also said that ‘Valeo Futbol Club will lend its footballing expertise to all of Athlone Town’s teams and help oversee their technical direction’.

News of this partnership comes amid Athlone’s impressive start to the 2023 League of Ireland First Division campaign under Dermot Lennon and Gordon Brett.

The Midlander’s also claimed the President’s Cup on Sunday afternoon with a penalty shootout win over Shelbourne under women’s boss Tommy Hewitt.

“Athlone Town Association Football Club has a great history as the oldest team in the League of Ireland,” said Valeo Futbol Club’s Founder and President, Emelio Williams.

“With this exciting new partnership, we will work hand-in-hand to improve all of the club’s teams, strengthen the club’s training program and develop the next generation of players.”

Athlone have also confirmed that players have already joined the club as a result of their partnership.

“This partnership will help Athlone get to the next level in and improve our competitiveness of our men’s team in the First Division,” Athlone Town chairman John Hayden said.

“But perhaps more importantly, it will help our players – and generations of players to come – access new opportunities to play football at the highest levels in Ireland and Europe.”

Per their website, Valeo Futbol Club have also partnered with clubs in Portugal – with Athlone now the latest to join forces. The US-based outfit are located on the outskirts of Boston.
