Wicklow youngster Conor Carty has joined St Patrick’s Athletic on loan from Bolton Wanderers ahead of the 2023 League of Ireland season.

The 20 year old swapped the gold of Wolverhampton Wanderers for the white of Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2022, playing alongside former Derry City defender Eoin Toal and ex Cork City winger Kieran Sadlier for the Trotters, and has represented the Republic of Ireland at underage level.

Prior to his switch to Bolton, Carty had made a number of EFL Trophy appearances for Wolves while he most recently was on loan at Gateshead in the National League- scoring once in eight appearances playing alongside former Republic of Ireland international Rob Elliott.

Speaking with his new club’s media team, the striker said, "I'm really happy to be here. Tim Clancy was in touch with Bolton and I had a zoom call with Tim and Alan Mathews, we had some good conversations and they won me over on the call. I'm really looking forward to getting started.

I also spoke to Eoin Doyle who was at Bolton previously, I know Anto Breslin too from my time at Wolves, they told me a lot about the club and the league, I'm looking forward to training and playing with Doyler and the rest of the squad.

The lads were saying that St Pat's have great supporters and get great crowds for the games home and away so I'm really looking forward to playing in those atmospheres and I’ll be doing my best to help the team and the club."

Speaking to the same source, Saints boss Clancy enthused about his new arrival  "We are really happy with the addition of Conor to the squad, he gives us a third option in the centre forward position and he is a little bit different to Eoin Doyle and Tommy Lonergan in terms of how he plays. Conor likes to make runs in behind which gives us another good option in that area of the pitch.

This loan move is good for both ourselves and for Conor, it will give him exposure to first team football, he's had two loans in the National League too where he's gained good experience there which we hope he'll be able to add to here at Pat's.

We've got two excellent young strikers now in Conor and Tommy to work alongside someone like Eoin Doyle and other experienced players in the squad like Chris Forrester, we'll be hoping to play a good brand of attacking football, creating lots of chances and hopefully lots of goals, with that in mind we are delighted to be adding a player of Conor's quality to the group."
