LOI transfer wrap: Danny Furlong returns to Wexford as Galway United sign duo

First Division Wexford have confirmed the return of former striker Danny Furlong to the club after a near four-year absence.

Furlong, 33, won a First Division title for Wexford Youths in 2015, and subsequently played for Wexford FC under Brian O’Sullivan in 2019.

But that stint back at Ferrycarrig Park was short lived as he returned to the junior ranks in Wexford, playing for Rosslare Celtic and North End United.

Furlong, however, has completed his return to the Slaneysider’s ahead of the 2023 season.

The striker also played with Galway United and Cork City in the League of Ireland previously.

And he has been joined at the club by former Bray Wanderers youngster Harry Curtis.

Curtis will also be eligible to play for Wexford at Under-19 level this season.

James Keddy’s side have also confirmed that they have Bastien Hery on trial after his most recent stint with Finn Harps and Galway United

Meanwhile, Galway United have unveiled the signing of duo Vincent Borden and Alex Rutter.

Borden, 23, is a midfielder by trade and was on the books of MLS side New York Red Bulls as a youth.

He was most recently of Slovenian side Rudar Velenje, having previously spent time with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

And after signing he said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I came over here about three weeks ago and it’s been great ever since.

“I’m really happy to sign and looking forward to getting started.”

Rutter however joins from Hume City in Australia, the current employer of former League of Ireland star Dylan McGlade.

The goalkeeper, 21, was also on the books of Swansea City.

Rutter said: “It’s going to be a tough season with lots of big games, we’re aiming to be at the top of the table this season with the squad we have.

“It will be good to learn from Brendan Clarke. He’s come into the team with years of experience. I’m excited to work and learn from him.”
