Irish international striker Michael Obafemi has joined Burnely on loan from Swansea until the end of the season with an option for a permanent move when the Championship season concludes in the summer.

“I'm glad to be here,” said Obafemi on his arrival at Turf Moor. “It's been a busy few days, but I am just glad that it's finally done now.

"When I first heard of Burnley's interest in the summer I was adamant to come here, obviously it didn't happen then but now I'm here and I just can't wait to play in the Claret and Blue."

It is an exciting time for the striker to make the switch with Vincent Company’s side, that includes influential midfielder Josh Cullen, sitting five points clear at the top of the Championship.

The 22-year-old striker spent the last year and a half with the Welsh team where hee scored 15 goals from his 52 appearances for the Swans.

The Dubliner progressed through the academy at Southampton making his first team debut in 2018 becoming, at 18 year’s of age, the club’s youngest goal scorer in the Premier League with a goal against Huddersfield Town.

In November that year Martin O’Neill handed him his international debut as a sub in the scoreless draw against Denmark in Aarhus in a UEFA Nations League clash becoming the first Republic of Ireland international born in the 2000s.

He has earned seven caps and two international goals with the Boys in Green, scoring against Scotland and Armenia in two home games in the UEFA Nations League.

In 2021, he made the move to Swansea in the summer of 2021 after five seasons at Southampton.
