Rooney pens new deal with Drogs

Drogheda United have confirmed that midfielder Dayle Rooney has signed a new deal with the club.

The 24-year-old joined the Louth side at the start of the 2022 season having spent the previous seven years with Shelbourne.

"Dayle has been magnificent for us and I'm delighted he has committed his future to the club. He is so hard working, extremely talented and dedicated to what we are trying to build at the club," Drogheda United manager Kevin Doherty stated.

"He has a great attitude and is another of the players we need to keep at Drogheda United."

Rooney was promoted to the Shelbourne first-team ahead of the 2017 season under Owen Heary after impressing with the club’s under-19s in 2015 and 2016.

He featured in all the Reds league campaigns since then, starting 16 times during their 2021 First Division campaign that saw the Tolka Park side gain promotion.

Rooney clocked up over 100 senior appearance for the Reds before switching to Drogheda United ahead of the 2022 season.
