Match officials named for upcoming UEFA club cup finals

UEFA have confirmed their match officiating teams for their upcoming major club cup finals.

Champions League (Liverpool -v- Real Madrid)

A team of French officials will be on home soil for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris.

Referee Clément Turpin has got the top job for the game in the Stade de France on Saturday 28 May. The 39-year-old official will take charge of his first Champions League final. He was the fourth official when Liverpool and Real played in the 2018 final in Kiev in Ukraine. 

He was last season’s ref in the Europa League final and was the match official for Ireland’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Slovakia in the Euro 2020 play-off in October 2020.

Champions League (Barcelona -v- Olympique Lyonnais)

For the Women’s Champions League final in the Juventus Stadium in Turin, referee Lina Lehtovaara will officiate the game set for Saturday 21 May.

The 40-year-old Finn is, like Turpin in the men’s final, taking charge of her first UEFA Women’s Champions League final, having acted as fourth official in a previous final (in Lehtovaara’s case the 2010 clash between Turbine Potsdam and Lyon).

This season she has reffed three UEFA Women’s Champions League matches including the quarter-final first-leg between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

She is also part of the officiating team for the upcoming women’s European championships.

Europa League (Eintracht Frankfurt -v- Rangers)

Slovenian official Slavko Vin?i? will referee the clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers in the Europa League in Seville on Wednesday 18 May.

He was the fourth official in last year’s final. Amongst his nine Champions League matches as of the play-off round this season, he was in charge of the quarter-final second leg between Bayern Munich and Villarreal CF.

Europa Conference League (Roma -v- Feyenoord)

The UEFA Referees Committee has assigned Romanian ref Istvan Kovacs for the Europa Conference League final between Roma and Feyenoord in Tirana, Albania, on Wednesday 25 May.

This season the 37-year-old official has taken charge of ten UEFA club competition matches, including the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid.
