League Preview: Treaty United -v- Galway United

Treaty United

Treaty United’s unbeaten run faces it’s toughest test to date on Friday night when they entertain second-placed Galway United in the SSE Airtricity League First Division.

Tommy Barrett’s men are currently six games without defeat, a run which includes three wins and the same number of draws.

Along the way they’ve taken points from two sides above them in the table having beaten Waterford as well as securing a draw away to Longford Town. The result leaves Treaty five points clear of sixth-placed Wexford with a game in hand.

Speaking to club's media, defender Charlie Fleming says while it’s a welcome buffer, they remain fully focused on the task in hand.

“We’re not really focused on that and we’re not looking too far ahead. We know we’ve Galway next week and that’s all we’re focused on.”

The Tribesmen are a full-time outfit and have impressive form to boot but Fleming says they’re not overwhelmed by Friday’s opponents.

“Look every week’s a battle and it’ll be no different (next week), so we’ll be ready.”

Galway United

Galway United will be hoping for a third straight league win when they travel to the Markets Field to play Treaty United on Friday night.

The Tribesmen currently occupy second place in the league and know that a win is imperative to sustain pressure on leaders Cork City.

Galway have made an impressive start to the campaign having returned seven wins from their opening ten games.

The Tribesmen have taken 23 points from a possible 30 so far and are just three points adrift of the Leesiders.

Galway are ten points clear of Treaty in the table, but Caulfield insists they won’t be taking the Limerick side for granted.

“We are looking forward to the game, we know that Treaty United are a very strong team,” Caulfield told the club’s media team.

“Tommy Barrett has assembled a very experienced side and we saw how well they did last year. Tommy brought in Joe Gorman and Enda Curran this year and he also has the other former United lads that are there.

“It is a local derby so we know how difficult it will be, but our form has been good and hopefully we have a big following at the Markets Field on Friday night.”
