GALWAY UNITED

The Tribesmen will be looking to continue their unbeaten run at home when they host Wexford at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday evening (kick-off 5pm).

After a slip up away from home which saw the Tribesmen lose to Longford Town in their first defeat of the season, John Caulfield’s men returned to winning ways last Friday night with a win over Cobh Ramblers.

Despite being the better side for large periods of the game it was just a single goal that gave them the three points with Killian Brouder scoring in the second half.

This weekend is a big one for Galway with Cork having no game this weekend the Tribesmen could join them at the top of the table on 19 points, but they’ll have to see off the challenge of Wexford first.

“We are coming to the last game of the first phase, it is another home game so hopefully we have a massive crowd on Saturday evening,” John Caulfield said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“We know that Wexford are a decent team and they have decent players. But at the same time, we want to put in another good performance.

“It was a hard game last week and we expect nothing different this week. We need to make sure we look after our performance and play to our best. We look forward to the game.”

WEXFORD

Ian Ryan’s men are currently in seventh place in the First Division with seven points from their opening games of the season.

Last week a Cian Murphy goal gave Cork City a narrow victory over Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park, leaving the side without a win in some time.

The team started the season brightly after they recovered from an opening day defeat to Treaty United.

They followed that game up with back to back wins over Cobh Ramblers and Athlone Town but now they haven’t won a game in over a month.

Wexford are definitely an improved side on last year, but the Tribesmen will be a tough nut to crack on Saturday evening.

Recent history doesn’t bode well for Ian Ryan’s side either, they lost all three of their meetings with Galway last season and it’s been over five years since the last time a Wexford team beat United.

MATCH STATS

Dinny Corcoran is one goal away from his 100th League of Ireland goal coming into Saturday night’s game.

The Tribesmen beat Wexford in all three of their meetings last season.

Galway United were last beaten by Wexford on Friday, 14 October 2016 at Ferrycarrig Park in a bizarre game that finished 5-4. Youths took a five goal lead in the game before Galway got back to within a goal.
