League Report: Bohemians 0 - 3 Wexford Youths

Seán O’Connor reports from Dalymount Park.

A wonder-strike from Ellen Molloy and two from Ciara Rossiter proved the difference as Wexford Youths beat Bohemians on Saturday evening.

Pat Trehy made one change from the side that drew 1-1 to Athlone Town last weekend, with Kira Bates-Crosbie coming in for Isobel Finnegan.

Wexford manager Stephen Quinn made two changes as Maeve Williams came in for Claudia Keenan between the sticks.

Striker Becky Watkins also made her first start for the club. Youths’ game against champions Shelbourne was postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch. Bohs came into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw to Athlone last

The home side started well and almost took the lead in the third minute. Lisa Murphy’s header from a corner went just over. It was the visitors who scored the opener as Ellen Molloy found the bottom corner from 35 yards out as Youths took the lead in the sixth minute.

Kylie Murphy almost made it 2-0 minutes later, but her effort was flagged for offside. Bohs soon settled into the game and almost equalised through Sinead Taylor. Taylor’s shot flashed across the face of goal as the home side began to step high.

Just before the  half hour mark, Abbie Brophy made a fantastic clearance to prevent Kylie Murphy from going one on one with the goalkeeper. Youths’ went two goals up from the resulting corner however, as Ciara Rossiter’s cross went over the head of Rachael Kelly.

Despite starting the second half well, Bohs went three goals down on 53 minutes. Rossiter went on a driving run down the right-hand side and found Kylie Murphy at the back post who tapped in from close range.

Bohs did enjoy a good spell after the hour mark and went close though Darby and Taylor. Wexford defended well however and Bohs could only try their luck from distance as the visitors saw the game out. Annmarie Byrne’s curling effort went wide and was the last chance of the evening, as Youths made it two wins from two in the Women’s National League.

Next Saturday Youths face Treaty United away while Bohs travel  to Sligo.
