Shelbourne have announced the signing of Wales under-21 international Lewis Webb ahead of the 2022 League of Ireland Premier Division season.

The goalkeeper joins the Reds on loan from English Championship side Swansea City until the end of the League of Ireland season.

“It’s a great opportunity for my development to come to Shelbourne and the way of playing will really suit my game,” Webb said, speaking to the club’s website.

“Speaking to Damien (Duff) and the staff it has been really exciting so I’m looking forward to the year ahead.

“There’s a lot of exciting games to look forward to and I’m really looking forward to being a part of the team and bringing success to Shels this year.”

Webb has had spells with Cardiff, Newport and Chepstow Town and he made 17 first team appearances for Merthyr Town before joining Swans in 2019.

He signed his first pro deal with the club in 2020 and he secured his long term future with the club last year with a new deal which will keep him contracted to Swansea until summer 2024.

Shelbourne manager Damien Duff told the club’s website: “Lewis fits the profile of goalkeeper that we want at Shelbourne FC. He has enormous potential and has shown his hunger by coming to the League of Ireland from Swansea.

“He is a great addition as it is important that we have competition in every position in the squad.”

The Reds begin their Premier Division campaign against St Patrick’s Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm).
