With the merger of Cabinteely and Bray Wanderers, the FAI confirmed on Friday that the First Division will go ahead with just nine teams for the 2022 season.

The second tier of the League of Ireland will have four rounds of fixtures beginning on 18 February.

The First Division winners will be automatically promoted while the runners up and the teams in third, fourth and fifth spots will take part in a play-off series with the winner playing in the promotion/relegation play-off against the side that finishes ninth in the Premier Division.

The fixtures will be released this coming Monday along with those for the Premier Division.
