Galway United have announced the re-signing of their captain Conor McCormack ahead of the 2022 League of Ireland season.

“Yeah look I’m delighted, I’ve been talking to John the last few months and I’m delighted to get it over the line now and looking forward to pre-season in January.” McCormack said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first year in Galway the people have been really nice and really welcoming, anything we needed we got looked after.

“The training facilities in Salthill are state of the art and I’m really looking forward to my second season here.”

The experienced midfielder has been around for a long time in the League of Ireland and experienced a particularly successful spell with Caulfield during his time with Cork City.

The 31 year old is one of the most decorated players in the League of Ireland, currently with a Premier Division title and an FAI Cup to his name from his time with the Rebels alone. Add to that another Premier Division title while with Shamrock Rovers and FAI Cup while with St Patrick’s Athletic and he’s certainly the most decorated player at Eamonn Deacy Park.

McCormack adds to the four players announced last week as having re-signed with the club with Stephen Walsh, David Hurley, Conor O’Keeffe and Conor Kearns all secured for next season.
