Galway United have announced the re-signing of Stephen Walsh ahead of the 2022 First Division campaign.

The Galway native is entering his ninth season with the Tribesmen making him by far the longest serving Galway United player at the club.

“I’m delighted to be back, it’s my ninth season and John (Caulfield) is really building a team at the moment who will push on for next year,” Walsh said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“I thought we did well as a team, we had one of the best defences in the league last season and it really is something to build upon now for 2022.

“I can’t wait for our first full season with fans, it almost feels dreary without them, they drive you on, they’re an extra man for us and they will help bring us to a next level.”

Walsh is in his third spell at Eamonn Deacy Park having signed from local side Galway Hibernians in 2010 for the first time.

The defender has had spells with Mervue United, Longford Town and Athlone Town since entering the League of Ireland.

Galway United announced the res-signing of Conor Kearns and Conor O’Keeffe earlier this week.
