Sligo Rovers have announced the re-signing of Mark Byrne as they continue their preparations for the 2022 Premier Division season.

The 21 year old made his debut for Rovers during the 2020 season but his impact for the first team was more significant this year with 25 appearances for Liam Buckley’s side this season.

“I feel I contributed more this year which is what I wanted and 25 appearances overall was great,” Byrne said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“I like to think I’ve matured a lot. There’s a great dressing-room here and I’m delighted to a part of it.

“The gaffer speaks with me every day. He has a job for every player in every game and he’s always speaking about what he feels I can do.

“I’m ready for the new season already because I think I can really step forward.”

Byrne joins an already stacked squad for next season at the Showgrounds with 15 players in total signed up for the 2022 season and presumably more to come before the new season begins in the new year.
