Derry City have completed the signing of midfielder Will Patching from Dundalk on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of 2021 on loan at The Candystripes notching six goals and six assists in 16 games.

Speaking to the club’s media team manager Ruaidhri Higgins said “It’s brilliant for us to be able to bring a player of Will’s quality to the club on a permanent deal.

“He struck up an immediate relationship with our supporters earlier in the year and they will be excited to see him back at the club.

“We want to bring top players to Derry City and Will Patching is definitely in that category. I’m delighted to have him here.”

The ex-Manchester City and Notts County star is the third player to make the move from Dundalk this offseason with Michael Duffy and Patrick McEleney already confirmed.

Derry beat the Lilywhites 2-1 on Friday to confirm a top-four league finish, meaning should St. Patrick’s Athletic win the FAI Cup Derry City will play European football in 2022.
