Former Cork City defender Jake O’Brien has signed a new contract with Premier League side Crystal Palace which will keep him at the club for another 3 years.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international joined the London club initially on loan in February 2021, before signing permanently in summer 2021.

The 20-year-old spoke to the club’s media team about the contract and singled out the club’s new facilities as a factor.

“I’m happy to get it over the line,” he said, “especially with the direction the club’s moving.

“It’s nothing like back home, They’ve everything here from the gyms to the dressing rooms. The pitches are all like carpets; there’s everything you can get to move forward.”

The centre back helped The Eagles Under-23 side to promotion last season and has been ever-present this year starting all 10 league games, captaining the side 3 times.

O’Brien was recently named in Jim Crawford’s under-21 international squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Italy and Sweden next week.
