GALWAY

The Tribeswomen play their last home game of the 2021 Women’s National League when they host Athlone Town under the lights of Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday (kick-off 7.45pm).

Last Saturday night Galway ran Shelbourne close in Tolka Park, and not for the first time this season.

Stephen Lally’s side eventually lost 2-0 with Abbie Larkin and Jessie Stapleton scoring for the Reds although Galway were on top for large parts of the game.

Scoring goals is still a key problem for the Tribeswomen and they’ve now scored just twice in their last five games.

Athlone are a talented side and the last time they came to Galway they scored four times so Galway will need to contain their visitors on Friday in order to give themselves a shot at taking a final three points at home.

ATHLONE TOWN

While Galway will finish the 2021 campaign in fifth place Athlone Town can still increase their standing in the Women’s National League in their final two games of the season.

They’re just a point behind sixth placed Bohemians and no one could argue that Tommy Hewitt’s young team deserve that slight boost of finishing as high up as possible.

Athlone secured a massive result last weekend with a 1-0 win over DLR Waves courtesy of a single Roisin Molloy goal.

Having won in Deacy Park already this season they’ll be confident they can repeat that result and get some revenge from their loss at home to the Tribeswomen when they ran out narrow 2-1 winners during the summer.
