A round-up of some of the Irish playing abroad over the weekend October 29 – 31, 2021. If we have missing out on players in these leagues, email us on extratimelive@gmail.com

Premier League 

Andrew Omobamidele scored his first Premier League goal for Norwich as they fell to a 1-2 defeat to Leeds United at Carrow Road. 

Shane Long was an unused substitute again for Southampton in their 0-1 victory against Watford, while Nathan Collins was back on the bench for Burnley in their 3-1 win against newly promoted Brentford. 

Shane Duffy made his 100th Premier League appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion as they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield. 

Matt Doherty continues to be out of favour at Tottenham in their 0-3 defeat at home to Manchester United, as once again he saw no action from the bench.

Ciaran Clark started in the centre of defence for Newcastle in their 0-3 defeat against the European Champions, Chelsea at Saint James Park. 

Adam Idah made a late appearance as a substitute for Norwich City in their game against Leeds United at Carrow Road, but failed to prevent them slipping to another defeat.

Championship

Callum Robinson and Jayson Molumby both made appearances off the bench for West Brom in their 3-0 defeat to Fulham while Dundalk native, Jimmy Dunne also appeared as a substitute for QPR in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. 



Alan Browne and Sean Maguire started for Preston North End in their 2-0 victory against Luton Town at Deepdale. 

Scott Hogan scored in a 0-2 win for Birmingham City against Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough. 

The Sheffield Utd and Blackpool game saw past and present Irish internationals appear as

John Egan and Enda Stevens started for Sheffield United in a 0-1 loss, whilst former internationals David McGoldrick made an appearance off the bench for Sheffield United and Richard Keogh started in defence for Blackpool.

Ryan Manning started for Swansea in their fine 3-0 victory against Peterborough United with  Michael Obafemi also playing as a substitute for Swansea. 

Elsewhere, Gavin Kilkenny and Mark Travers started for Bournemouth in their comfortable 0-2 win at Reading. 



League One 

Gavin Bazunu kept another clean sheet alongside Ronan Curtis and Shaun Williams for Portsmouth in their 1-0 win against Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park. Dublin native Eoin Doyle also started up front for Bolton. 

Anthony O’Connor and Ryan Delaney started for Morecambe in their 3-1 defeat against Oxford United. 

Former Republic of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan continues to star for Cambridge United at almost 40 years of age, in their 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon. 

Anthony Pilkington started for Fleetwood in their 3-3 draw against Wycombe Wanderers with Daryl Horgan starting for Wycombe. 

Warren O’Hora and Peter Kioso both started for MK Dons as they beat Crewe Alexandra by four goals to one with Kioso scoring the third goal for Milton Keynes.

Rotherham thrashed Sunderland 5-1 and piled on the misery, with former Ireland international Aiden McGeady sent off. The Sunderland manager, Lee Johnson, admitted that it was ‘men against boys’. 

Elsewhere, James McClean scored for Wigan in a 2-0 win against Burton Albion.

League Two 

Aaron Drinan scored a hat-trick for Leyton Orient in their 5-0 victory against Hartlepool. 

Former Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan started in midfield for Bristol Rovers in their 0-1 against Harrogate Town and also received a yellow card during the game. 

Dundalk native Emmanuel Osadebe started for Walsall in their 0-1 win against Sutton United. Former Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Ward started at left back for Walsall. 

Paudie O’Connor and Niall Canavan started in defence for Bradford City in their 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers. Fiacre Kelleher (older brother of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin) was an unused substitute for Bradford.

Elsewhere, Stephen McLaughlin and Stephen Quinn started for Mansfield in their 2-0 victory against Tranmere Rovers while Jimmy Keohane and Eoghan O’Connell started for Rochdale in their 1-2 win against Barrow.

Scottish Premiership 

James McCarthy was an unused substitute for Celtic in their 0-0 draw at home to Livingston. 

Jake Carroll was an unused substitute for Motherwell in their 1-6 thrashing at home by chapions Rangers. 

Jonny Hayes played a role off the bench for Aberdeen in their 2-1 win at home to Hearts, ending Hearts’ unbeaten run in the league.

Meanwhile, Joe Shaughnessy, Conor McCarthy, Alan Power and Conor Ronan all started for St. Mirren in their 0-1 defeat to Dundee. Cillian Sheridan and Ryan Sweeney started for Dundee. Sheridan ruptured his Achilles tendon in the game.

Rest of the World

Graham Carey was left on the bench for CSKA Sofia in their 1-3 defeat to Lokomotiv Plovdiv. 

Jake Mulraney came on as a substitute for Atlanta United in their 1-1 draw against Toronto FC in the MLS Eastern Conference. 

Derrick Williams started in central defence for LA Galaxy in their 2-0 defeat to Sporting Kansas City in the MLS Western Conference while Zack Elbouzedi started for AIK in their 1-0 defeat to Halmstad.

On-loan Ryan Johansson made a first start for Fortuna Sittard as they lost 4-3 to Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie.
