League Preview: Shelbourne -v- Wexford

SHELBOURNE

League leaders Shelbourne will be looking to continue their ominous charge towards the league title as they get set to take on Wexford at Tolka Park this evening (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Reds come into the game off the back of a winless run, but they remain eight points clear at the top with seven games to play.

“We’ve used the break to our advantage getting everyone fit again after three weeks or so with the Covid situation,” Shels boss Ian Morris said.

“We’ve played games behind closed doors and come back now aware we need to win games.

“You can feel it in the different levels each week [with fans returning]. First starting with the 100 and now increasing to more.

“It gives the players such confidence, so I’d urge everyone to really get behind these players tomorrow,” he said.

“We’re in good shape and have the positive of being able to choose match winners from the bench as well as the starting team so we’ll need everyone for the run-in,” he said.

In team news, Denzil Fernandes, JJ Lunney and Gerardo Bruna all miss out through injury.

WEXFORD

After seeing off Killester Donnycarney in the FAI Cup last weekend, Wexford return to league action to take on Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Goals from Tyler Dunphy and Karl Manahan gave the First Division side a deserved win in the capital.

But the win came with a considerable cost. Jack Doherty was forced off early on with a nasty injury and appears unlikely that he will feature tonight as a result.

Killester were undone minutes into the second half by Wexford after Tyler Dunphy’s opener.

Dunphy poked home into an empty net after some good play from Evan Farrell dispossessed a Killester Donnycarney defender.

Ryan Robinson was then dismissed following a sickening lunge minutes later as Manahan ensured Wexford’s progression with a great strike.

In other team news, Kyle Robinson and Conor Crowley return from suspension for Ian Ryan’s side.

Referee: Eoghan O’Shea.
