Galway WFC have announced the appointment of Ruth Fahy as the club’s full-time Chief Executive Officer.

The 33 year old returned to play for her native Galway this season in the Women's National League and she will take up the role on Wednesday, 1 September after a playing career which saw her line out for Wexford  Youths, Castlebar Celtic, UL and Salthill Devon.

Fahy now steps away from Stephen Lally’s first team squad with her full focus on designing and implementing a strategic vision for the club in her new role.

“Galway WFC has always been a side that has had enormous potential and now the time is right to capitalise on that,”Fahy said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“This appointment is a hugely progressive step and an indication of the club’s ambitions both on and off the pitch.

“Women’s football continues to evolve at a rapid rate. As standards rise on the pitch, so too do demands off it. In order for our players and coaching staff to compete at the top level, they need the right structures in place.

“Massive efforts have been put in by club personnel over the past decade and we now need to elevate our club structures to the next level to truly reap the benefits of this work.

“I have no qualms about the challenges that we face as we work towards a new club vision. But I’m not afraid to do things differtently where needs be.

“I believe in the talent we have in galway and know that, with the right systems and strategiv plan in place, we can achieve somethinf special with this club.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the board for this opportunity and excited to get started.”
