Athlone Town appoint Paul Doolin as new first-team manager

Athlone Town have appointed former Ireland under-19 boss Paul Doolin as their new first-team manager.

Doolin takes charge of the Co. Westmeath side following the departure of Adrian Carberry on Tuesday.

He will take charge of Athlone for Friday’s game at home to Galway United.

“The board of management of Athlone Town AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Doolin as our new men's senior team manager,” a statement read on Wednesday.

“Paul needs little or no introduction to the vast majority of Irish football fans.

“He has a proven track record in management in the League of Ireland and with Irish underage teams.

“He has managed UCD, Cork City and Drogheda United whom he guided to Premier Division success in 2007 and an FAI Cup win in 2005. He has also managed Ireland's U-19 team.

“Before his move to the dugout Paul was a highly decorated and respected player having played for clubs including Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians, Shelbourne, Derry City, and Dundalk in the LOI and Portadown in the Irish League.

“Paul's appointment as ATAFC's manager was confirmed following a meeting between the parties late on Tuesday evening, August 17th last.”
