Galway rounded out a busy week of three games when they faced Women’s National League champions Peamount United at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday.

After a midweek win against Athlone Town, the Tribeswomen were beaten 3-0 with Stephanie Roche scoring twice and Aine O’Gorman adding the third goal for the visitors.

Stephen Lally’s side had performed strongly against Wexford Youths and Shelbourne in recent games but the manager was disappointed with Saturday’s result.

“We’re all very disappointed because we felt we just didn’t put in a performance,” Lally said, speaking to extratime.com after Saturday’s match.

“Maybe it was the three games in a week that took its toll on us, they’re more experienced than we are, they’re more clinical and you could see it there.

“Our passing game wasn’t as fluid as it had been and individual errors cost us.

“It just didn’t seem to happen. In fairness to them, they closed us down fairly quickly.

“A girl would take a first touch and there’d be another touch and all of a sudden they’re closing you down.

“We didn’t move the ball as well as we moved the ball in other games and that’s what has cost us.

“Maybe they were able to close down the space and close us down quicker, that’s why there are where they are. They’re a very good side.”

Teams are now in the final third of the WNL season and Galway have this weekend off before taking on Cork City on Saturday week.

The Tribeswomen are unbeaten against the Rebels in their two games already this season and Lally’s first win as manager of Galway was secured in Turners cross back in June, but the manager won’t be expecting an easy game.

“Cork City have put it up to other teams, and we’ll put it up to other teams, like we have up to now. “No game is easy, but I’d like to feel you’d go out and try and play football and try and do the right things, at a better tempo against Cork and you might get your rewards.

“You have to do it, and you have to do it at a good tempo.

“We know the level we want to get to, and that’s the level we want to get to, what they [Peamount] played there, but that takes time. We are getting there.”
