Michael Cooke reports from the Markets Field

Cabinteely ended a run of six straight defeats in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland First Division beating Treaty United 4-1 at the Markets Field on Friday night.

Vilius Labutis, Kieran Marty Waters, Kevin Knight and Niall Barnes were on target for the visitors while Clyde O’Connell registered Treaty’s only goal of the game.

An opportunistic goal gave Cabinteely the lead on seven minutes as Barnes’ shot from the edge of the box deflected off Joe Collins’ leg and into the path of Labutis who scored from six yards out.

The hosts lacked creativity in the opening exchanges but they could have restored parity on 24 minutes when Willie Armshaw cut inside from the left before hitting the crossbar from close range.

Four minutes later, Treaty thought they had pulled one back from what appeared to be a training ground move but the goal was subsequently ruled out for offside when a perfectly weighted free-kick from Marc Ludden found Jack Lynch who sets up Charlie Fleming and he scored from close range but it didn’t count.

On 37 minutes, Cabinteely doubled their lead when a wayward pass from Sean McSweeney found Labutis and he played in Kieran Marty Waters who scored from 20 yards out.

Chances were scarce in the opening half from Treaty’s perspective, but they managed to pull one back on the stroke of half-time.

Marc Ludden was once again the provider as his superb delivery from a corner-kick set up Clyde O’Connell who headed home from close range.

Ten minutes after the restart, O’Connell received a straight red card after he was adjudged to have brought down Keith Dalton inside the box.

Kevin Knight stepped up to take the resulting penalty kick and he made no mistake from 12 yards out.

Thirteen minutes later, Cabinteely were three goals clear when Jack Watson's shot was saved by Tadhg Ryan and the rebound fell to Niall Barnes who rifled it home from inside the box.

Treaty were under the cosh at this stage but could have registered a second goal with a minute of normal time left but Matt Keane’s close-range effort went wide.

In the fourth minute of injury time, Cabinteely were awarded their second penalty of the night when Tadhg Ryan brought down substitute Eoin McPhillips inside the box.

McPhillips took the resulting spot-kick but his effort missed the target completely but Pat Devlin’s men still ran out convincing winners.
