Patrick McEleney magic earns Dundalk a famous result in Arnhem as Emakhu scores dream Euro winner for Rovers

A stupendous Patrick McEleney goal ensured that Dundalk would bring a draw back to Tallaght Stadium next week in their Europa Conference League qualifier against Vitesse Arnhem.

McEleney burst through following an excellent through ball from Sam Stanton, standing up the keeper before dinking the ball over him to give his side a then 2-1 lead.

The future Derry City man gave Dundalk the lead after they had fallen behind in the first-half thanks to a Matuk Bero opener.

Bero slotted home after Million Manhoef played in Bero following a Vitesse break, with the goalscorer slotting home past Alessio Abibi.

Dundalk then levelled in the second-half through McEleney who headed home a Raivis Jurkovskis cross before then putting them ahead with that goal.

But the Lilywhites could not hold out as Lois Openda levelled matters in the 89th minute with a bicycle kick.

He would however be sent off moments later, leaving the tie firmly in the balance ahead of next week’s second-leg at Tallaght Stadium.

And it was at Tallaght Stadium where Aidomo Emakhu etched his name into Shamrock Rovers folklore as he scored a late winner for the Hoops in a 1-0 win over FK Teuta.

Emakhu was found free at the back post by Ireland international Daniel Mandroiu, with the 17-year-old making no mistake to send the Rovers support home happy.
