Treaty United’s incredible 2021 season continued its momentum as they ran out 4-1 winners over Athlone Town at Lissywoolen.

The Shannonsiders raced into a 4-0 lead before Athlone could hit back with a mere consolation through Kurtis Byrne in second-half injury time.

Tommy Barrett’s side saw goals from four different scorers in Jack Lynch, Edward McCarthy, Sean McSweeney and Marc Ludden.

The win brings them to within nine of Shels at the top of the table with ten games to play.

And it was a 2-2 draw between Shelbourne and Cobh Ramblers that brought that reality upon Treaty.

Shels went ahead twice at Tolka Park but they could not hold onto their lead as Cobh scored two equalisers through Nathan and Danny O’Connell.

Galway United also kept up their chase of Shelbourne thanks to a 3-1 win over Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park.

Wexford in fact took the lead through Jack Moylan, but his opener was cancelled out by three unanswered goals from the Tribesmen.

Padraig Cunningham, Killian Brouder and Shane Doherty all got on the scoresheet for John Caulfield’s charges.

And Cabinteely’s woes continued thanks to a heavy 3-0 loss at home to local rivals Bray Wanderers.

Cabo were undone thanks to goals from Joe Doyle, Sam Verdon and Brandon Kavanagh as Bray secured their first league win at Stradbrook since February 2019.

Meanwhile, Cork City were held to a 1-1 draw at home to UCD at Turner’s Cross.

Jack Keany’s free-kick secured a point for the Students after Cian Murphy had given the Leesiders a 49th minute lead.
