Derry City have announced the signing of Madagascar international Bastien Héry on loan until the end of the season.

The French-born midfielder signed for Keith Long’s Bohemians ahead of the 2021 season but with first team opportunities hard to come by at Dalymount Park a move to the Candystripes has materialised.

Héry began his League of Ireland career with Limerick in 2017 after spells in France and England.

The 29 year old then moved to Waterford for the 2018 and 2019 seasons before joining Linfield and winning a NIFL Premiership medal in 2020.

“Derry City fans have seen Bastien play before and know what he’s capable of,” Derry City manager Ruaidhrí Higgins said, speaking to the club’s website.

“ He’s someone I’ve obviously known about for some time and is the type of player we’ve been looking for.

“I know the past 18 months probably haven’t worked out for him the way he planned but he’ll get the opportunity here to get back on track. He’s fit and raring to go and will go straight into the squad for Saturday night’s match in Longford.”

City’s new signing said, “I’m very happy to be here and having played at Brandywell a few times I’m looking forward to showing supporters what I can do.

“Yes I feel I have a point to prove and that can be my motivation to do well for Derry City. It will be good to get started.”

The Candystripes are back in Premier Division action when they make the trip to face Longford Town on Saturday (kick-off 7.30pm).
