FAI Cup Round-Up: Derry City beat nine-man Drogheda on penalties as Longford and Harps see off non-league opponents

Derry City had to wait until penalties to defeat nine-man Drogheda in the FAI Cup this afternoon at Head in the Game Park.

The Boynesiders looked as if they had won the game in normal time thanks to a Dinny Corcoran goal on the stroke of half-time.

But Tim Clancy’s side were eventually undone late on in second-half injury time, with the Candystripes slotting home a spot-kick after Dane Massey was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

It was a frustrating day at the office for the Drogs as James Brown was harshly sent-off as they ended the 120 minutes with nine-men.

And Derry City would eventually run out winners on spot-kicks with Evan McLaughlin scoring the decisive penalty.

Finn Harps had to wait until extra-time to see off Limerick junior side Fairview Rangers, eventually running out 3-0 winners.

A goal from Sean Boyd and an own-goal eased fears of a cup upset on Shannonside for the Co. Donegal side.

Barry McNamee would also get in on the act late on, slotting home in the 123rd minute to make it 3-0.

Longford, on the other hand, had little issue seeing off Leinster Senior League Bangor GG, cruising to a 5-0 win.

The scoreline was perhaps harsh on the Dublin side as goals from Dean Williams, Dylan Grimes, Callum Warfield and Aaron O’Driscoll proved decisive.

Darragh Nugent however scored the pick of the bunch as he found the top corner with a superbly taken shot with the outside of the boot.
